Ladakh
Himalayas, 2006 - 2018
On two occasions I went trekking at high altitude in the Himalayas. I was struck by the cuboids of purple rock that were sprawled like fallen Jenga blocks. At the time I made no visual recordings, such was my depleted physical state, but I stuffed my pockets with little shards of stone. Back in the studio I played with these micro-splinters. I found a method of making inter-locking angular marks with graphite pencil and my drawings began to reflect the arduous, painful journeys.
