Teaching

Big, Brave Drawing is the name I have given my current classes. It stems from over 30 years of art teaching; witnessing students striving and struggling to achieve photographic perfection...and losing confidence.

Why Big? For me, drawing is always a physical activity where the artist/learner uses their hand, arm and shoulder to draw, not restricted by small pieces of paper. Sometimes we need to make small studies but the next bit is about letting the media and your body do their thing...and enjoying it!

Why Brave? I believe bravery is closely related to trust. My aim is to provide students with quality materials that are fit-for-purpose. Combined with high quality teaching, students quickly learn to trust the technique, the media and me - trust that it's going to be O.K. Repeated practice builds bravery.
